If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you might remember that I talked about Max in a previous blog entry called Thought of the Day for Work: Making the World a Better Place.

Max is participatting in the Ride for Heart (#RideforHeart on Twitter), a fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. He is part of the VIP registration program.

Recently I discovered that a blogger I’m new to following, Morgan from Life After Bagels, is also in the VIP Program for Ride for Heart.

She’s holding an auction on her blog at Monday, May 14th to help raise funds to hit her fundraising goal for the ride. If you’ve got a few minutes, stop by her blog and check out the prizes she has up for auction on Monday. Maybe you’ll find something you want! Even if you don’t find something you want, you should wish her luck. Anyone who commits to raising $1,000 for a good cause gets a lot of respect in my books!

Good luck Morgan!

There’s someone I want to introduce you to:

Meet Max, (@Dr_bikefix on Twitter). He’s the fleet mechanic for Bixi in Toronto. He’s also awesome.

If you’re not familiar with Bixi, they’re the wicked bike stations you see across Toronto. But, enough with that, let’s get back to Max.

Max is going to participate in the Ride for Heart (#RideforHeart on Twitter) that is a fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. He is part of the VIP registration program, so it’s safe to say that he’s the kind of guy who likes to go big, but going big means that he needs to raise a lot of money.

Max has a great strategy, he’s using his powers for good and offering bike tune ups for a small fee, calling it Toonies for Tune Ups. His home shop is located near Ossington station. If you don’t have twitter, you can email him at Mhasenhindl@hotmail.com – so get in touch with him, get your bike tuned up, and help him hit his goal!

Biking gets us exercise, exercise helps keep us healthy and also lowers your chance of heart attack and stroke. So, Max is basically helping the cause in two different ways. I’m fairly certain that makes him some kind of superhero.

In a winter like this, putting away your bike might be a bit pre-emptive. Gas is going higher and the weather outside is downright spring-like. The environmental choice is also the better choice for your pocket book. I can’t think of a better way to spend that extra money, than by sponsoring Max and keeping your bike in tip-top shape.

Max is an inspiration. Can you think of how you can use your work skills to make the world a better place?

If not, perhaps you can use the money you make at work to help someone else improve things. Help sponsor Max and help make death wait.

If you want to sponsor Max, click here to go to his donation page.

If you’re thinking of joining the Ride for Heart, you should act quickly as it typically sells out. After all, it’s the only time you’ll ever get the unique experience of cycling traffic-free down the Gardiner & DVP. Click here to find out more about the Ride for Heart.
