I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that my house hasn’t had a significant amount of clutter go out the front door since my earlier experiment on clutter busting. We still clean our house, but there’s something REALLY satisfying about a large amount of clutter leaving your house to never come back again.

Now, my day started off going a bit sideways. I had plans, but I was feeling really under the weather, so the plans didn’t happen. Instead, my wife and I stayed in and cleaned. There’s something satisfying about cleaning – it always feels like productive time. Clutter and dust impact your health and happiness, so getting rid of them is nothing but a benefit to your quality of life.

Sometimes life throws a curve ball at you and your plans don’t go the way you want them to. However, sometimes you find a plan B that helps you feel good despite the change in plans. So, when you get hit with unexpected circumstances, look for your plan B. Or, when all else fails, try to clean your house. It’s not terribly exciting, but it did save my day!

Well, to start off on a happy note, I’m feeling better than yesterday. I guess a night of good sleep, eating healthy, and moderate exercise can set the stage for a much better next day.

However, I don’t want to only think of my happy thoughts for the day on bad days, I feel that any day is a good day for simple happy thoughts. So, without further ado, here’s a list of happy thoughts for the day.

1. The link between wine and sleep: In a previous experiment, I found that wine (both white and red) had a positive impact on my sleep when consumed in moderation. While this isn’t a sleeping aid I plan on using every day, it’s nice to have a good tasting glass of wine on occasion, and the better night’s sleep doesn’t hurt.

2. Returning to Experiments: It’s been a while since I’ve done a happiness experiment, and I have one I’m planning for next week. I’m actually pretty excited about it as this one will be a big kitchen challenge for me. I’ll keep you posted – if all the pieces come together, you’ll see the details for it in my Sunday post.

3. Mac and Cheese: Okay, it just tastes awesome. The fact that they have managed to keep it tasting awesome while making it slightly less bad for you is a great bonus too. It’s only an occasional thing to eat, but once or twice a year I enjoy it.

Do you have any foods you associate with being happy? What is your “happy dish”?

I was feeling a bit glum today, so I wanted to take a quick moment to make a happy thoughts list. Reflecting on the good things always makes me feel better.

So, without further ado, here are my happy thoughts for today:

1. My wife: She brightens up the house when she comes home.

2. My cat: He must be half dog – he rushes down the stairs to greet me after a long day at work.

3. Chicken bacon: Okay, it’s far less profound than the other items, but it tastes REALLY good.

I’ve been having a week full of surprises.

The surprises are all good, but that doesn’t make many of them less stressful.

Today’s surprise was new challenges that I needed to face, but what made those challenges into my happy thoughts of the day were the unexpected allies that came with them.

Out of nowhere, the universe supplied a few people working on similar projects and moving in the same direction as I was who were cheering me on.

This, in turn, led to me cheering them on.

Sometimes, you can go from being your own worst enemy into someone else’s unexpected ally in the blink of an eye.

Life is pretty kooky like that, and that’s part of what makes it so damn incredible.

Happy Friday everyone!

My happy thoughts for today are random days off. It is multiple thoughts because I get multiple days.

I was working through most of the Victoria Day long weekend, so I get some days off in place of that. Today was one of those days.

I got to sleep in, go for a walk, catch up on some gardening and housework, relax, and generally enjoy a beautiful day the way a beautiful day was meant to be enjoyed.

We often use our holidays for trips that we plan, or journeys that we must take. There are weddings, family reunions, and all sorts of other events that lead us to plan our very limited free time. However, sometimes it’s the free time that has no plans that makes for the best days of all.

Some people call days like that a “mental health day”.

When was the last time you took a mental health day?

This is a simple happy thought of the day for me:

Landing.

That moment when you’re flying somewhere and the wheels touch down on a runway different than the one you just left.

It can be abrupt and jarring, or it can be feather soft, but the moment you feel that sensation, you know you’re somewhere new and fun things can begin.

Life has similar sensations to touchdown in a plane. You might not have moved an inch, but you do know that things have changed.

Every new beginning comes with new opportunities, so don’t forget to keep your eyes open next time your wheels touch down someplace new.
